ALBUM: Reflections - Secrets from the Heart

Ik publiceer mijn muziek onder mijn eigen naam Wiebe (S.J.) Glastra, met als toevoeging #wsjpiano, zodat je me altijd kunt vinden op internet. Zo kom je uiteindelijk terecht bij mijn artiestennaam: Wiebe Glastra - WSJpiano

Reflections
Mijn albums krijgen voortaan als verzamelnaam “Reflections”, net zoals andere componisten bijvoorbeeld “Inventionen”, “Nocturnes” of “Etudes” hebben bedacht. Zij schreven uitvindingen, avondliederen en studiestukken. Ik schrijf weerspiegelingen, reflecties. Ze zijn moeilijk te typeren onder een bekende term, maar ze zijn duidelijk herkenbaar als muziek van … Wiebe Glastra. Het is daarom ook moeilijk om ze onder een bekend genre onder te brengen, maar mijn distributie platform Amuse bedacht het creatieve genre: inspirational, en daar voelen mijn inspiraties zich goed bij, want ik hoop dat ze jou ook zullen inspireren.

Secrets from the Heart
Vandaag vertel ik wat over de geboorte van mijn nieuwste album: “Reflections - Secrets from the Heart“.  Dit album, met hoofdzakelijk nieuwe composities, weerspiegelt de geheimen van mijn hart vol hoop, geloof en liefde.
Ik liet een paar nummers horen aan iemand als een soort ’speed date’, om te kijken of ik hiermee zou kunnen optreden in hun zorgcentrum. Vanaf de eerste noot zat ze gefascineerd te luisteren en gebaarde dat ze kippenvel kreeg. Kijk, daar doe ik het voor: mensen boeien en bemoedigen.

Hoe mijn muziek ontstaat
Muziek uitgeven is een leuke bezigheid, vooral als je veel vrije tijd hebt, maar die is ook voor mij wel een beetje spaarzaam, dus duurt het vaak langer dan gedacht om tot een eindproduct te komen. Eerst ben je uren, dagen, maanden, soms zelfs jaren bezig met het creatieve proces. Je krijgt inspiratie, zomaar of omdat je ernaar zoekt, zit te rommelen, te proberen, te bedenken, te noteren, bij te schaven. Dus ja, leuk, maar wel zeer tijdrovend, of wat aardiger gezegd: tijdvullend.

Maar hoe ontstaat nu zo’n nummer? Zelf zit ik meestal achter mijn piano en dan beginnen die vingers vanzelf wat te spelen. Soms klinkt het nergens naar, een andere keer word ik enthousiast als ik mezelf een nieuw thema hoor spelen. Dan druk ik snel op de opnameknop zodat ik het later kan naluisteren, naspelen, uitwerken. En als ik dan tevreden ben, dan start ik het schrijfproces op de laptop, zodat mijn muziek ook door anderen gespeeld kan worden. Tijdens dat schrijfproces kan er nog van alles gebeuren, zoals het toevoegen van extra instrumenten. Ik musiceer niet voor mezelf, maar wil juist anderen er blij mee maken.

Het kan ook gebeuren dat ik mijn muziekschrijfprogramma MuseScore open en met een blanco pagina begin, een willekeurig instrument kies en dat vervolgens een paar tonen laat spelen. Daarna laat ik me inspireren door de mogelijkheden van de instrumenten, hun klank en warmte, hun bereik, hun samenspel en samenklank en de techniek van het programma.

Zo stelde ik mezelf eens ten doel om een orkeststuk te gaan schrijven. En kijk nu: er staat al een rijtje composities klaar voor publicatie. Ik sta zelf verbaasd over het productieproces en nog meer over de leuke resultaten.

De update van mijn muziekschrijfprogramma MuseScore 3 naar 4 bleek een nieuwe wereld te openen, waardoor sommige stukken opnieuw moesten worden vormgegeven, voordat ik tevreden kon zijn over het eindresultaat. Maar dan heb je ook wat. En nu staat er een dijk van een album klaar met 12 nummers, waarvan de meeste nog nooit eerder zijn gepubliceerd.

Het album
In dit album “Reflections - Secrets from the Heart” zitten twee solo nummers met live-opnames op verschillende Roland digitale piano’s, drie liederen in orkestrale uitvoering, drie nummers specifiek geschreven voor orkest en een paar andere voor verschillende kleinere settings. Al met al een gevarieerd en onderhoudend programma. De nummers aan begin en eind zijn de kortste van duur, maar in de Repeat-All modus sluiten ze qua sfeer naadloos op elkaar aan en kan je zo ongemerkt de playlist automatisch door laten spelen en twee keer driekwartier laten duren. Een leuke playlist met sfeermuziek voor tijdens een bakkie koffie met je gasten.

Reflections
My albums have the collective name “Reflections”, just like other composers have come up with, for example, “Inventions”, “Nocturnes” or “Etudes”. They wrote inventions, evening songs and study pieces. I write reflections, reflections. They are difficult to classify under a well-known term, but they are clearly recognizable as music by … Wiebe Glastra. It is therefore difficult to classify them under a known genre, but my distribution platform Amuse came up with the creative genre: inspirational, and my inspirations feel good about that, because I hope they will inspire you too.

Secrets from the Heart
Today I tell you about the birth of my latest album: “Reflections - Secrets from the Heart“. This album, with mainly new compositions, reflects the secrets of my heart full of hope, faith and love.
I played a few songs to someone as a kind of ’speed date’, to see if I could perform at their care center. From the first note she was fascinated and listened, gesturing that she got goosebumps. Look, that’s what I do it for: to fascinate and encourage people.

How my music originates
Publishing music is a fun activity, especially if you have a lot of free time, but it’s a bit sparse for me too, so it often takes longer than expected to arrive at a final product. First you spend hours, days, months, sometimes even years working on the creative process. You get inspiration, just like that or because you’re looking for it, messing around, trying, inventing, writing down, refining. So yes, fun, but very time-consuming, or rather: time-filling.

But how does such a number arise? I myself usually sit behind my piano and then those fingers start to play something by themselves. Sometimes it doesn’t sound like anything, other times I get excited when I hear myself playing a new theme. Then I quickly press the record button so that I can listen to it later, replay it, work it out. And when I’m satisfied, I start the writing process on the laptop, so that my music can also be played by others. Anything can happen during that writing process, such as adding extra instruments. I don’t make music for myself, but I want to make others happy with it.

It can also happen that I open my music writing program MuseScore and start with a blank page, choose a random instrument and then play a few notes. Then I let myself be inspired by the possibilities of the instruments, their sound and warmth, their range, their interplay and harmony and the technique of the program.

For example, I once set myself the goal of writing an orchestral piece. And now look: there are already a number of compositions ready for publication. I am amazed by the production process and even more by the great results.

Updating my music writing program MuseScore 3 to 4 turned out to open up a whole new world, requiring some redesign before I could be satisfied with the end result. But then you have something. And now there’s a hell of an album ready with 12 songs, most of which have never been published before.

The album
This album “Reflections - Secrets from the Heart” contains two solo songs with live recordings on various Roland digital pianos, three songs in orchestral performance, three songs written specifically for orchestra and a few others for various smaller settings. All in all a varied and entertaining programme. The songs at the beginning and end are the shortest in duration, but in the Repeat-All mode they connect seamlessly with each other in terms of atmosphere and you can let the playlist play automatically without noticing and let it last two times for 45 minutes. A nice playlist with mood music during a cup of coffee with your guests.
